My Breeding Commitments
Health Screening of Chihuahua Parents
I invest in health screening my Chihuahua parents following OFA’s breed specific standards (cardiac, patella and eyes) in order to ensure that puppies born at my kennels will have the best possible outcome. (Please note that some parents are still in the process of being tested.)
Showing Dogs - Confirmation by many AKC judges
I invest in showing my Chihuahuas in AKC show rings. What does this mean? This means that my Chihuahuas and their bloodlines have been evaluated by many AKC and International judges for its quality and its temperament over many generations. In order to win enough points to become an AKC champion, the dog has to perform (a walk and on a table) in front of judges, touched by them in the presence of many other dogs and people in a high stress situations. Naturally, we select dogs who exhibit stronger mental strength and stability, self-control, intelligence and loyalty with correct body structures as well as beautiful movement. Thousands of dollars are invested into each dog to be shown in show rings, but it is a necessary step as a breeder to choose to breed the best of the best.
Feeding raw diet
I invest in feeding all of my chihuahuas, including puppies, the raw meat diet starting at 4 weeks old. Why raw? One of the biggest reasons is that a dog’s saliva doesn’t have amylase or has a very low amount of amylase, which is necessary to digest starch. If dogs consume high carbohydrate foods such as kibble, it will lead to a build up of tarter quickly… which leads to dental diseases. Dental diseases eventually will cause heart failures, kidney failures and liver failures. Chihuahuas are very prone to dental diseases, and commercial kibbles contain almost 50% carbohydrates from corns, rice and potatoes. Some studies show that it takes only 17 days of feeding kibble for a dog to start developing dental diseases. From personal experience, I used to feed kibble to my Chihuahuas, and noticed some of them started to develop dental diseases as early as age 1. I want to raise Chihuahuas who can live a long and healthy life. Dental Cleaning won’t be covered by most of the pet health insurance either, and in the Bay Area where we are located, the dental cleaning at vets can cost about $1200 to $1600 or more. You will also notice that with the raw diet, their fur is incredibly soft compared to kibble fed Chihuahuas.
Don't worry! I also feed young puppies Royal Canin puppy kibble along with raw food since I cannot pack raw food to go for puppies who need to travel far for a new home. This makes the transitions smoother and the buyer can easily obtain this food. Other recommended foods are freeze dried raw, cooked (like Farmer’s dog) or fresh pet.
30 days of free Pet health insurance is offered
I am partnering up with Trupanion pet health insurance, and all puppies/dogs are covered for accident and illness from the day they go to their new home. There is no waiting period so they are covered immediately. Due to rising veterinary costs, this will make sure that puppies will be taken care of if any emergency occurs during stressful transition times.
Each puppy will be vet checked before going to a new home
Each puppy is vet checked by my veterinarian before going to their new home, and you will be given access to its records. You can also contact the vet to ask any questions you may have.
